looks halfway decent, though I'd still say Hunter S Thompson for the preliminaries and ECC Hill 1 for the finals.  The bottom of this hill looks a bit populated and if we don't have many extra volunteers traffic control could be a problem

Thinking about Frans words and reviewing the video has me thinking… We are all driving the distance to make great morning of soapboxin and it really should be different than the rest.  Im proposing a simple run format that I think will work for everyone.

Sat:

Anytime          Meet in base mountain town on Sat.  Check into the Suites

Sun:

5:15-5:30 am   Drivers meeting outside suites.

5:45                 Depart for hill

5:50                 Drop and load

6:00                 09 East Coast Challenge Shakedown CRUISE

                                    Location: XXX

                                                                        3.x Miles

                                                                        No Bullshit

                                                                        Test and Tune

                                                                        Enjoy the ride

                                                                        2 miles thru town

8% grade

                                                                        Speed limited

7:00                 East Coast Challenge Run1:

                                    Location: XXX

Viva la Soapbox

                                                                        2.0 Miles

                                                                        9% Grade

Top 4 From each group advance

** Five Miles of soapbox before anyone is eliminated**

7:15 -7:45        Assemble at Final’s meet spot

8:00                 Semi final:

                                    Location: XXX

8 Racers Depart

                                                                        1 mile

                                                                        3 switchbacks

2 Racers from each group advance

8:15                 Final:

                                    Location: Same as semi final

4 Racers Depart

8:16.xx            One asshole gets to talk shit for the year

8:17                 Breakfast BBQ at bottom

                                                Bring a cooler and charcoal

OR

8:17                 Fun Runs… But that will depend on how many cars are still rolling

And if we get shut down for any reason, the winner of the last race run would be the Challenge Winner.  Even if that race is the Shake Down Cruise.

i like it!  Feels good to have a plan.

how many helpers will we have, and should we consider speaking to the local police department about closing roads?

The hills are spread though a few towns... The semi final and finals hill (the same hill), we should be able to control with radios pretty easy.  I dont see us bringing any spotters

Any cop talk will involve twnship permits, insurance, emts, etc... We just have to obey the rules of the road.

Talking to the cops may backfire and shut us down before we even get started.  Or it may make us jump through hoops we really don’t have time to jump through.  I think in the true spirit of Illegal/Underground Soapbox, we just go for it!

Then after we are finished, we immediately start working on next year's challenge.  Maybe that way we could approach the town/county council and really get things rolling.

I’ve been looking at Google Earth and Sky Line drive in Virginia has some really nice runs!

Then for the World Finals, spend some time on Google Earth looking at the Canary Islands!  That looks like some of the best soap box hills in the world to me!

I didn't get it.

Jola & I are in, Jerm is in and Rexy Mingo is in.  Neal is a maybe, but if he does well Sunday, he will probably be in.  So we are hoping for at least 5 regulars.

Then we have 3 or 4 new guys who may also be in, but have not yet responded.  I'll send out a personal e-mail to the group and we'll see what results we can get.

What about Kevin?  Is he representing NJ or his new Montgomery county PA group?

Its looking like most of us will need time with our cars on saturday and rather than spend the night drinking, we are going to fix the cars and meet up in the early am.  Did you guys get rooms yet? I know Roger from WI needs 2 sleeping spots

Fran, give me a buzz tomorrow.
Roger from WI, I'll call your cell.

We are also way behind with our cars.  Sundays big crash did a lot of damage and we just don't have time or funds to get some parts we would like to have.  5 cars have badly flat spotted tires that arn't getting changed.

So we're coming with most of our best cars being held together with band aides and tape.

I don't think anyone reserved rooms yet.  I may be bringing the motor home if it makes it that far.

Jeremy and Brice found a place 1/2 hour away that was a lot less expensive.  I don't have any details.  Maybe Jerm will see this tonight and fill us in.

Talk to you tomorrow!

our opening cruise will be in the dark ... reflectors, glow sticks, and narrow low lights are a good idea so oncoming traffic will see us... runs 1 and 2 will be OPEN roads.  3 and 4 should be easier to control since people will be eliminated and working the road

We have no spotters coming.   You guys have anyone?

 yeah, we have 1.

i did buy flashing bike lights for my kart and I have some spares but not the mounting hardware.  mabye for the shakedown cruise we can have someone with lights appointed lead and another person with lights appointed tail so both ends of the pack have lights
